Tajikistan’s gold production last year climbed by 134.4 kg to 2,241 kg
A day after announcing country’s gold and forex reserves, former soviet state Tajikistan revealed its gold production figures last year.
According to country’s Energy and Industry ministry, gold production last year climbed by 134.4 kg to 2,241 kg.
The ministry also announced company wise production results for 2011. Aprelevka produced 439.5 kg of gold while Odina produced 130.2 kilograms and Zarafshan’s output hit 1.3 tons.Tadzhikzoloto made only 319 kilograms of gold, instead of the planned 500 kilograms.
Silver production also climbed up during last year. Minenergoprom amounted to 1 ton 663.7 kilograms of silver last year, the ministry added.
The central Asian republic’s gold and currency reserves hit $801.6 million on the last day of last year, country’s central bank National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) said last week.
Tajikistan, sits on the gold belt, located in Central Asia’s Tian Shen mountain range has only a small domestic market for gold, with the main buyers being the National Bank, the Treasury and a small number of jewellery makers.
Tajikistan produced 2,050 kilograms of gold in 2010, which is 690 kilograms more than in 2009. It has 28 known gold deposits containing an estimated 429.3 tons of gold.
The largest amount of gold produced in Tajikistan was in 1998 – 3,000 kilograms, while in recent years, the country has produced not more than 1,800 kilograms. Most of gold comes from the Jilau deposit operated by ZGC. – BullionStreet
