Vietnam’s gold import in 2011 doubles from 2010
Vietnam’s import spending on gold and its products (generally called gold) in 2011 would be about $1.9 billion while the country’s export turnover of gold in 2011 is estimated at $2.2 billion, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Le Thi Minh Thuy, director of Service and Trade Statistics Department (under GSO) said that if basing on the world gold price at the time of importing, Vietnam has imported 35-38 tonnes of gold in 2011.
Regarding the proportion, gold accounted for 2.8 percent of the country’s total export turnover and 1.8 percent of the country’s import spending in 2011. This ratio in 2010 was 3.8 percent and 1.2 percent respectively.
